Stone Cold started out in a garage in Middletown on
April 12 1986. Chip and Jeff had met previously and played together but not
until they played in Luther’s garage did they form their first band together. The
drummer’s name was Tony, but they called him Luther due to his likeness to a
character in the movie “48 hours”. The other guitarist was Neil.
They named
themselves Stonehenge and stayed together for
about 10 months, playing two gigs, a graduation party at a firehouse on
June 29 1986.Larry joined them for the firehouse gig taking over on vocals. On July 14
they kicked Neil out of the band and by September they
were also looking for a new drummer. Stonehenge played their second gig at Lakewood Prep
High on April 4 1987 with Ben behind the drums and John Arcara singing. After
this show they found themselves again in search of a drummer and for a short
time they jammed with Andy from April thru August of 87,by November Chip and
Jeff
were looking for
other bands and Stonehenge had ended.
It did not take long
for Chip
and Jeff to start playing together again. On January 8 1988 Chip
and Jeff got together for the first time with another new drummer (Greg).
They played together throughout the year when they found time away
from their other bands.
In April of 1989 Chip
quit his band Atlantis and the two of them started jamming a few times a week
with Greg at Chips house, they were officially a band again. They quickly
felt the need to replace Glenn (he quit the band in July) and after we found
Dave Curtis who became our singer we started jamming with him and his cousin
Chris who played drums for us.
Dave had auditioned for Chips last band Atlantis but things did not work
out and Atlantis broke up Chip and Jeff recruited him. By
June the band was solidified with Chip, Jeff ,Dave and Chris. In July they were writing
one of their first songs Burned.
On August 20,1989 they went into the
studio
to
record a 8 track of Burned,
Tides of Change
, Girl
Don't You Know and
Rock N Roll
Child. They recorded the tracks from August 20 thru September 10,1989 and
started mixing on October 1 1989. By this time their drummer Chris had left
for collage in Boston and they were rehearsing new drummers by October 4
1989.By the end of October Marco Polo was in the band. We had our first gig
at Faces in Keansburg on November 16 1989.Their second
gig was at Fastlanes in

short causing an argument between Jeff and

quit the band, the search for another drummer was on again.
